Mirror, Mirror on the Wall; How Did You Turn into a Board?

For those of you who followed my blog posts lately, you probably know that I have been obsessed with blackboard paint. So obsessed that not only I have been using it on 'normal' surfaces to give a boost to my usual handpainted furniture, but onto some unconventional surfaces as well, such as this kitchen lighting makeover

Today, I am going to show you another usage of this versatile paint: turning a mirror into a notice board. Yes, a mirror!

I've had this vintage mirror for a while now and I really liked the look of it, but I couldn't find a place for it. It would have been purely decorative, but I simply didn't have any space to show off its beauty. As I was moving it from room to room, wall to wall, corner to corner, I had a brainwave: what if I can make a notice board out of it. How? By priming the whole mirror (glass and wooden frame) then applying the blackboard paint on the glass and white chalk paint on the frame. And it worked!

If you want to try it, here is what I have used:

white all-surfaces primer
blackboard paint
white chalk paint
brushes

Primer and white chalk paint

I haven't sanded the frame, I applied the primer straight onto the surfaces in three layers.

After the primer has dried (left it overnight), I applied two layers of blackboard paint
on the glass and two layers of white chalk paint on the frame.

In situ.

Please ignore the gaps between the bricks as I am planning a 'pointing the brick wall' project, but what I am showing here is the first note that went on the board: Botanical painting course at Eden Project - so exciting!

I hope you enjoyed the step-by-step photos and if you try it, please let me know how you got on.
