This is the third makeover of my working room/studio/spare room and as the address didn't change, nor the use of the room, the décor however went through a complete makeover yet again in order to create a stylish and functional room that I enjoy working and spending time in. As it is a small room, maximising the space is/was a great challenge as well as keeping it tidy without losing its purpose.
Unifying the furniture
As the furniture was made of different pieces in different colours and styles, I decided to paint them all with sea foam green, from my old writing desk and chest of drawers to the mini bookcase and shelves. The advice is that if you can’t afford to buy new furniture or a set, simply paint your existing furniture or second hand pieces in the same colour to unify them. As before, the pieces were in different shades of brown, from dark to light, now all furniture is green as if they all belong together. The result is the room looks tidier, bigger and lighter. Not to mention the stylish factor.
Storage boxes
As this room is also used as a spare room for guest(s), I needed space to keep my materials out of sight but easy to reach and find. The solution was storage boxes in different colours and styles to match the room and fulfil the purpose. So all the mess moved to those storage boxes and the space looks tidy without losing its charm.
Final touches
Not only did I hang most of my paintings on the walls so people can see them when they visit my studio, but I also hand painted some bowls and storage wooden boxes to accessorise the room. They are perfect to keep things that I need daily, yet the recipients are pretty, contributing to the overall look of the room.
Other decorative and functional items: vintage clock and typewriter, vases and plants, handmade pottery and small vases also used as storage, art books and magazines, candles. I hope you get inspired by these images and create your ideal studio with minimum money and effort. More images on my Facebook page here.

ReplyDeleteI hope this post will inspire you to arrange one :).
DeleteYou have such a cozy little studio there. I absolutely LOVE the yellow. It's my favorite color! It also looks like you have quite a view from your window. Very inspiring little nook! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, yes, it's the next door neighbour's garden, it looks really nice in all seasons :).
DeleteDream studio! I'm in the midst of purging and making meditating/working/etc. space and even trying to add some feng shui techniques, so I'm loving looking at your work space. The view is beautiful and I love the baskets to stash clutter.
ReplyDeleteThanks, yes, the baskets are such a cheap storage solution and they look good too :).
DeleteGreat job! Your tips for unifying different styles of furniture using color is a great one. I've been doing a slow motion studio makeover this year. First step has been clearing clutter and materials that I don't use anymore, and adding better storage. Next will be paint and redecorating. Love this!
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'd like to see yours when you finish :).
