Two Cakes and a Weekend in Sicily

What do the two cakes and the weekend in Sicily have in common? Two birthdays and one joint celebration. Both my husband and I are celebrating our birthdays in April and every year we do something for both birthdays: at 37 we went to Bruges, at 38 we visited Eden Project for the first time and since then it became one of our favourite destinations, at 39 we visited some National Trust sites (we didn't have the budget for something more 'exotic', but we LOVE national trusting 😊 ) and this year we went to Sicily.

Cosy Weekend

Our weekend started Thursday afternoon when my husband came back from work due to the risk of snow and ice. As Thursdays and Fridays are normally my days off from my day job and as I didn't have other commitments with my freelancing business, I took full advantage and got some well deserved rest. I have been so busy in the last two months that it feels like I am half way through 2018 already so the  mini holiday I had was more than welcome.

Christmas Fair 2017

I was happy to be invited to take part in this Christmas Fair in North Curry, Somerset as I haven't done one in four years! It's been a long time since I have written this post and looking back at it, I am happy I followed my own advice: nice tablecloth (white is perfect for my products so they stand out), plenty of change, similar style products and everything was clearly priced. Note to self: in the future, order some bags so the customers won't need to carry their purchases in their hands. Dear people who read this post, if you know of a good packaging company, please let me know; I would prefer recycled paper if possible (I am mainly interested in paper bags). Thoughts for the future? I should start doing more fairs and not rely exclusively on online sales. The highlight of the night: people winning my donated products for their raffle tickets. I hope they like them - they could be a perfect Christmas present.

I am organising this event as a thank you to all my customers and Facebook fans, old and new. I know I wasn't around too much lately due to being busy with my other job. And you know what they say: out of sight, out of mind. I lost some likes during this time, but I also gained new ones for which I am grateful. I would like to thank everyone from those who have been with me from the very beginning, to anyone who liked and commented on my photos, to anyone who shared my page and encouraged me to continue on this path and to anyone who bought something from me. If I gain more likes along the way, this will be a welcome bonus; reaching 1000 is my aim until the end of the year, but this is not essential.

1.Withleigh Christmas Fayre

I had mixed feelings about the first craft fair I was going to attend not as a buyer or admirer but as an exhibitor. Since receiving the invitation sometimes in October to the actual event this Saturday on the 24^th, I read all I could find on the Internet about how to prepare for such an event, I rehearsed the table’s layout and I sorted the items for sale: original paintings, cards, prints, bookmarks and pendant necklaces.

Tiverton Art Society

To be part of an art society could be a positive experience. If you are a beginner or/and an amateur and you don’t know where to start, by joining an art society you can find like-minded people in your area and show your work to experienced artists for feedback and constructive criticism.  

Tiverton Art Society is based in Devon and it has a history of encouraging Fine Art practice in this area since 1971. It holds various events (monthly meetings, sketching days, and painting holidays) as well as a bi-annual exhibition, over Easter and in August where the members have the chance to show their latest work.
