Summer Meadow Inspired by the Eden Project

Have I ever told you that Eden Project is one of my favourite places? Not only is it educational but it offers plenty of photography opportunities. During one of my visits, I was impressed by this meadow scene and few months later, I decided to paint it. Here are the step-by-step photos. Enjoy!

Starting with a green background.

Adding shades of green.

Adding colour using a sponge.

Creating texture.

More texture + another painting creeping in; keep an eye on it too.

Adding some poppies to the landscape painting while waiting for the other one to dry.

Adding more colour and texture.

More poppies to both paintings.

Texture + windows and doors.

More flower shapes.

Textural flowers.

Finally starting to look like a painting - my favourite stage.

More details.

Even more details.

Looking at the painting from different angles.

Adding accents.

Waiting for the paint to dry.

When do you decide that a painting is finished?

The painting will stay on the wall for a few days as I might decide to add some more accents. But in the meantime, would you help me find it a title?

  1. Beautiful paintings, Teodora. I love the idea of making them at the same time and adding colours to both of them. As for the painting with the flowers, the title I propose is "Fairy garden". Kisses, my friend.

    1. Thank you, I love the title! I always work on two or more paintings at the same time. The landscape is not finished yet, I need to add some more floral details and maybe some birds. As for the floral one, just some accents and it will be ready to go to a new home :).

  2. Wow, love what you have created, the pink makes the design pop.

  3. We honeymooned to Cornwall 2012. But as we only had 5 days we visited the "Lost Gardens of Heligan" instead of the "Eden Project". Neverthe less, why not name the painting "Bodelva" - after the Eden Project?
P.S.: Most wonderful painting! I love it!

    1. We want to visit the Lost Garden of Helligan too; we live in Devon, not too far from Cornwall. Thank you for your comment and suggestion :).

  4. How wonderful to be able to see your process. Early on it's hard to see how it's going to work but then 'ta dah!' it does. I think I'd call it Summer Meadow but that's a bit boring maybe! I visited the Eden project years ago and absolutely loved it.

    1. Thank you for you comment and suggestion. I love Summer Meadow, I titled my paintings before with all sorts of derivatives from Meadow: Devon Meadow, Poppy Meadow, Wild Meadow so it would be in tune with the other artworks :).
