Sicilian Inspired Bedroom - Part I

One of the things recommended by psychologists to keep you sane in these strange times is to make plans for the future. From planning your next holiday to hosting a garden party for when this will be safe, nothing is too insignificant to make a significantly positive contribution to your overall wellbeing.

My next project is to decorate our bedroom in the Sicilian style. I am not sure such a style exists, I could probably call it 'Mediterranean', but I wanted to be more specific because Sicily was by far our best holiday we had so far. Therefore, we would love to bring the island's Mediterranean atmosphere into our bedroom through colours and mood.

I started with this selection of photos taken on the sunny island as colour inspiration. From buildings and old doors to sea, sky and cacti, all images sum up my impression of Sicily.

Next step was to make a sketch. It isn't to scale, but I tried to capture the colours I had in mind. I am not sure the finished decor will look like the sketch, but it is a relevant guide that I will refer to.

The next step was to paint the bedsides from multicolours to blue ombre effect which turned out perfect! Using chalk paint and different shades of blue, I managed to capture the different tones that remind me of the sea and the sky.

The next step was to paint a seascape inspired by Sicily, something that I had in mind for a long time but never got to actually do it. What better motivation one could have than decorating their bedroom incorporating as many handpainted items as one can. Including an artwork.

This is as far as I got as we really need to change the carpet so I will do some more after. Having said that, it is amazing how with just a few changes you can create a whole new atmosphere into a room. Now, this is my favourite place to read these days and I thoroughly enjoy it!

How about you? What is your next project? Or are you making plans for the future? I would like to hear them all, no matter how big or small. 💙
